An accounting firm with two offices in Cumberland and Lancaster counties has opened a third office as part of a merger with an existing firm.

Gift & Associates has opened its third office in Myerstown, Lebanon County, to add to its 30-year business, managing member Stephen Gift said.

"I like the (Lebanon County) market," Gift said. "I think there is a good opportunity there to grow the client base and it's a good complement to our Harrisburg and Lancaster-area offices."

The office actually is a merger of two firms: Gift and Associates and Groves and Yoh, an accounting firm that had been in business for 40 years in the Myerstown area. Gift said Groves and Yoh had been looking for a succession plan to make sure the client base it had built would still be treated well when the company's executives retired, Gift said.

The firm contacted Gift and Associates concerning a possible merger, Gift said. Gift and Associates now has a client base of more than 500 small businesses and individuals, he said, and is approaching 600.

The merger actually happened in 2012 and Gift and Associates opened the new location in August of that year, but Gift said it wanted to do it "as quietly as possible" to make sure clients were comfortable with the switchover in management.

It took until December 2013 to have a grand opening for the office. Gift and Associates has another office in Lower Allen Township and a third in East Hempfield Township.

The Myerstown location is at 152 W. Main Ave.
