Turnpike toll hikes to affect trucks, too

By ,

The Pennsylvania Turnpike's increased toll rates that start Jan. 5 will mean increases for trucking companies as well as motorists.

Cash customers will pay 12 percent more than in 2013 and E-ZPass customers will pay 2 percent more than previously, according to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

Commercial vehicles are going to pay the same increases, but depending on the weight class of the vehicle that will mean a much more expensive trip compared to the family car, turnpike spokesman Carl DeFebo said.

Here are examples of the toll changes for a Class 7 vehicle (rated between 62,001 and 80,000 pounds) traveling from the Carlisle interchange to the Ohio border:

Current cash toll: $109.75

Jan. 5 cash toll: $122.95

Current E-ZPass toll: $86.57

Jan. 5 E-ZPass toll: $88.30
