Pennsylvania leapfrogged to the third spot for 2012 on a list of state and federal offshore natural-gas production figures released by the federal Energy Information Administration.
The commonwealth’s 72-percent increase in marketed natural-gas production from 2011, when it ranked seventh, puts it just below Louisiana and also still pretty distantly trailing Texas.
The EIA also said Pennsylvania might be the second-largest producer for this year.
Also for 2012, West Virginia came up a spot to enter the top 10 list with a 37-percent increase.
No other jurisdiction on the list of top performers had anywhere near the increases Pennsylvania and West Virginia registered on a percentage basis, according to EIA.
