Lancaster General among top U.S. hospitals for electronic records

By

Lancaster General Hospital is among the top 2.2 percent of U.S. hospitals for its level of implementation and adoption of electronic medical records, according to Chicago-based technology consulting firm HIMSS Analytics.

The Lancaster hospital, part of Lancaster General Health, has reached stage seven, the highest level, in the analysis of its use of technology to improve patient care, according to HIMSS Analytics.

“This award represents the dedication and teamwork of our physicians and employees to transform the delivery of healthcare. The adoption and use of electronic tools and information coupled with process changes have had a dramatic impact on our ability to support our mission to improve the health and well-being of the communities we serve,” Thomas E. Beeman, Lancaster General Health president and CEO, said in a statement.

The highest level of electronic records doesn’t use paper charts and allows the hospital to share secure electronic records with outside care providers, among other metrics.
