A company that claims to be operating out of a vacant Lower Allen Township office building also is suspected of trying to scam consumers, according to the state Department of Banking and Securities.
The state said Northlawn Lending, which lists 2500 Gettysburg Road as its address, does not exist and is not licensed by the department.
Spokesman Ed Novak said six complaints already have been received. Northlawn solicits personal and business loans as well promoting debt consolidation services and refinancing.
The consumers who complained said they were solicited for loans but did not actually apply. They alerted the department when they called the Office of Consumer Services to inquire about the legality of such loans.
"Unfortunately, we are seeing more of this kind of activity as consumers use Internet search engines looking for financial assistance and end up on the websites of unlicensed operators," said Secretary of Banking and Securities Glenn Moyer.
A call and email to the company were not immediately returned.
"It's a mystery," said Jim Brady of Landmark Commercial Realty, the property's listing agent.
