I scratched my head for a few moments when I came across a news release a few weeks ago.
It's focused exclusively on homebuilders in the company's service territory, the company said.
Why would UGI want to help link homebuyers to homebuilders? Its business is energy, no?
Then I had a hunch and — as is far from always the case — it actually turned out to be right.
The explanation goes a little like this, according to UGI Utilities spokesman Joe Swope:
One of the things that's important to the communities UGI Utilities serves and the company itself is to have new construction taking place as an economic driver, and natural gas is an overwhelmingly preferred fuel source for newly built homes where it's available, Swope said.
Additionally, FindNBuild participation does not mean homes need to use natural gas, Swope said.
He called it a "natural" partnership.
I think it's a pretty smart one, too. More homes built in is territory means more business for UGI.
