Hershey is better than Lititz?

By ,

What's cooler than being cool? Ice cold.

Or chocolate.

Apparently the folks over at NerdWallet Inc. didn't get the memo that Lititz is the Coolest Small Town in America.

In the company's recent "The Best Towns in Pennsylvania for Young Families," Lititz didn't even make the list. Hershey, which is in Derry Township, came in at No. 8, the only area in Central Pennsylvania to crack the NerdWallet list.

NerdWallet crafted its list based on public school ratings from GreatSchools, home affordability, and average household income and income growth over the last decade.

Jefferson Hills, a suburb of Pittsburgh, topped the list. Eleven of the 15 towns on the list are outside of Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. Emmaus near Allentown, Wyomissing near Reading and Bloomsburg in Columbia County rounded out the list.

Lititz earned its moniker earlier this year. It was awarded by voters in an online contest hosted by Budget Travel.

The contest listing noted Lititz's founding in 1756 as a Moravian community, as well as its visitor-friendly assemblage of retail and restaurant offerings.

Obviously the two lists aren't comparing the same things. Take a look and judge for yourself.

Chocolate Town, U.S.A,. does look good on a postcard. But I could really go for some Sturgis pretzels and some dark chocolate Wilbur buds.
