A Lebanon County medical group has become the first Pennsylvania business to join with a Tennessee-based health care company.

Lebanon Anesthesia Associates has joined with Nashville, Tenn.-based PhyMed Healthcare Group, a network of physician-owned anesthesia practices.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The merger of the two is not just PhyMed’s first move into Pennsylvania, but its first move out of the Tennessee area, according to Paul Teiken, president of Lebanon Anesthesia Associates.

Teiken said the local company, with nine doctors and 14 certified registered nurse anesthetists, had been looking for a partner for about 18 months, and that PhyMed offered similar “cultural” values.

“You’d think that most anesthesia groups would be the same, but they’re not,” Teiken said. “But PhyMed had very similar thoughts, practice styles and management styles.”

Nothing will change with the local company’s level of patient care, Teiken said. The only change is the local office now will have access to “quality data” from PhyMed’s network it hasn’t had access to in the past, he said.

Frederick Miller, CEO of PhyMed, also said the two companies have “compatible culture and vision,” which made the merger a logical fit.

PhyMed has more than 300 clinicians in its group, including 85 anesthesiologists and 245 CRNAs.

Lebanon Anesthesia Associates is at 956 Isabel Drive in North Cornwall Township.
