Hershey Med Center reaches contract deal with Teamsters

By

The Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Teamsters Local 776 have reached an agreement on a new three-year contract for about 900 union-represented employees.

The Dauphin County hospital announced the deal late Friday after the union voted in favor of it. The contract includes guaranteed wage increases for employees each of the three years, as well as market-based increases for employees in technical trades to help recruit and retain people in those positions, according to the hospital.

The contract covers various jobs including food services, patient transport, housekeeping, facilities and other technical positions at the hospital.

"This multi-year contract provides competitive wages and benefits for our employees and ensures our continued focus on our missions of patient care, research, education, and service to our community," Alan Brechbill, executive director of the Hershey Medical Center, said in a statement.

The parties had been negotiating since early June, medical center spokesman Scott Gilbert said. The old three-year contract expired on June 30 of this year. The new contract will be retroactive to July 1.

Hershey Medical Center in Derry Township employs about 9,400 people at its facilities, which also include medical degree programs for Penn State.
