Chesapeake Energy, Sinclair Broadcast report higher Q3 earnings

Oklahoma-based Chesapeake Energy Corp., a major natural-gas player in Pennsylvania's Marcellus Shale, today reported third-quarter net income attributable to the company of about $202 million, or 24 cents per diluted share, compared with a loss of more than $2 billion, or $3.19 per diluted share, in the year-ago period.

The firm also said it has 190 wells awaiting pipeline connection or at various stages of completion in its northern and southern Marcellus areas as of Sept. 30, according to a news release.

Shares of Chesapeake Energy Corp. are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol CHK.

Maryland-based Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. today reported third-quarter net income attributable to the firm of about $36.3 million, or 36 cents per diluted share, compared with about $26.2 million, or 32 cents per diluted share, in the year-ago period.

Earlier this year, the firm said it had agreed to purchase Allbritton television stations — including WHTM-27 (abc27) — for $985 million.

Shares of Sinclair Broadcast Group are traded on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol SBGI.
