Real estate is like any other part of life – it's migrating faster and faster to the cloud. The latest thing that your agent is likely gabbing about over the water cooler is the rise of the “cloud office.”
Once upon a time, real estate agents (who officially are subcontractors of their company, not employees) had to go to an office to access the MLS book. Then, they still had to go to use the fax machine or make copies. Then, they needed a place to connect to a Wi-Fi network to upload documents.
Not anymore. Today, there are enough cloud-based tools that a busy agent can perform almost any function of his or her business – even meeting with clients in a pinch (Skype, anyone?). Office managers and brokers can conduct training, sales meetings and coaching over the Internet in real time – with face-to-face contact.
Signatures? They are already obsolete but don't know it yet; the rise of effective signature and document handling cloud services allow a client anywhere in the world to download, review and sign contracts and addendums.
Now, we all know that nothing is going to replace a personal introduction or a handshake. But, with the busy lives we all lead today, cloud office tools have become the badge of professionalism for the modern real estate agent.
