Cressler Trucking Inc., a subsidiary of Cumberland County-based Keen Transport Inc., will close in November, according to a notice the company sent to the state Department of Labor and Industry.
The closure of Cressler's location at 1951 Harrisburg Pike in Middlesex Township, the same address as Keen Transport's headquarters, will mean the layoff of 81 people, according to the letter. The closure is expected to take place Nov. 11.
"It's mainly due to the fact that (Cressler) wasn't going the direction the rest of Keen was," said Nate Seiders of Keen's human resources department.
Keen Transport hauls heavy machinery, while Cressler was a boxed trucking firm, he said. The company had previously moved Cressler from Shippensburg to the Harrisburg Pike location.
Some Cressler employees were offered jobs at Keen, which will remain open, Seiders said.
The layoff notice was sent in September but just now appeared on the state's site that tracks layoffs.
Keen and Cressler were acquired in 2011 by Los Angeles private equity firm Platinum Equity.
