Gladys M. Brown of Dauphin County has been sworn in as a member of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission after being confirmed by the state Senate earlier this week.

Gov. Tom Corbett in June announced the nomination of the deputy chief counsel to Senate Democrats to fill Wayne E. Gardner's spot on the commission.

"She is a highly qualified addition to the Commission who brings a wealth of knowledge about utility issues, as well as the creation of the laws that shape our policy," Robert Powelson, PUC chairman, said in a statement.

Brown received her bachelor's degree and law degree from the University of Pittsburgh. Her approval by the state Senate and its Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee were unanimous, the commission said.
