Bon-Ton elects Spencer Spirit Holdings CEO to board

Bon-Ton Stores Inc.'sboard of directors has elected the top employee of Spencer Spirit Holdings Inc. to its vacant position.

The company said Friday that Steven Silverstein, 53, president and CEO of Spencer Spirit Holdings Inc., took over the spot effective immediately.

Silverstein, a graduate of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, has been president of the company since 2003, according to a Bon-Ton news release. The company operates Spencer Gifts and its 600 locations in North America, including five mall stores in the midstate. It also operates Spirit Halloween, which has more than 1,000 Halloween stores, with eight in the midstate.

Previously Silverstein had been president of Linens ‘n Things and worked for Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s.

“We are very pleased to welcome Steven as a member of our board of directors,” said Tim Grumbacher, chairman of Bon-Ton’s board of directors. “Steven possesses extraordinary experience in the retail and apparel industries and I believe his expertise and vast knowledge will be invaluable to Bon-Ton.”

Bon-Ton, with one of its two corporate headquarters in York, operates 272 department stores (seven in the midstate) in 25 states under the Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers nameplates. The company trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol BONT.
