UGI adding more than 100 field construction jobs for infrastructure work

By ,

UGI Utilities Inc. is adding more than 100 full-time field construction jobs for improving and expanding infrastructure.

The company’s multiyear, $1.2 billion infrastructure betterment initiative focuses on cast iron and bare steel pipeline replacement. The additional workers also will support extending UGI’s facilities to new customers.

UGI has about 586,000 natural-gas customers in 45 Pennsylvania counties and one Maryland county.

In the past five years, UGI has added more than 58,000 customer accounts. Natural-gas prices have fallen more than 30 percent for customers since 2008 thanks to drilling in the Marcellus Shale formation, the company said.

This and environmental benefits of burning gas are driving “unprecedented demand,” according to UGI.

The company plans to add other positions, such as for management and training, in addition to the field construction jobs.

Shares of the utility’s parent firm, Montgomery County-based UGI Corp., are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol UGI.
