August was a big month for home sales in the greater Harrisburg area.
Cumberland and Dauphin counties each saw sales increase by 15 percent compared to August 2012, according to the Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors.
Cumberland County posted 285 sales last month, its best August since 2007. Meanwhile, Dauphin County finished the month with 258 sales, its best August since 2009, according to the association.
The Central Penn Multi-List Inc. coverage area — which also includes Perry County in that group of primary counties, along with sales from association members in neighboring counties such as Lancaster and York — came in with 794 sales in August.
That was up 12 percent from August 2012. It also was the best August for the area since 2007.
More than 27 percent of CPMLS sales came from outside Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties.
The median sale price for the region was $163,250, which was up from $163,000 last August, according to the association.
And sales were strong across nearly all price points. There were 534 homes sold in the $199,999-and-less range, 152 sold in the under $299,999 range, 72 in the under-$399,999 range and 36 valued at more than $400,000.
