Red Privet expansion plan includes Philadelphia-area office

By

The office space vacated at the Harrisburg Transportation Center didn't stay vacant for long.

Web marketing company Red Privet LLC is expanding and moving into the office formerly held by the Technology Council of Pennsylvania, which moved to Harrisburg University in August.

Red Privet rents the office space that adjoins the council’s former space.

“We’ve been growing along at a pretty good clip, and we started to fill out this one,” said Matt Hummel, Red Privet’s president and founder.

That isn’t the end of the company’s expansion. In addition to opening a two-person Pittsburgh office in the spring, the company will open a five-person Philadelphia-area office in Paoli in early October, Hummel said.

The separate expansions will take the company from 18 to 30 employees, he said. The additional space at the train station brings the company from about 2,200 square feet to 5,000 square feet.

The company opened at the train station in February 2010 and was founded in April 2009 when Hummel was the only employee.

Being in the business incubator atmosphere of the train station has helped the company’s growth, Hummel said, because the train stops about two blocks from the company’s new office in Paoli.

“We can get back and forth really conveniently if we need to,” he said.

While Hummel is excited by the company’s rapid growth, he said it likely will be managed in the future to stay between 40 or 50 employees.

“That would be a nice size for us,” he said. “There’s a lot of risk in growing too fast, too quickly.”
