Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts announced today that it will unveil a significant performing arts sponsorship at a news conference at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The sponsorship will have a five-year impact on the performing arts presented in the region, according to a news release. No other details were provided, but the center also invited the public to stop by between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to enter to win tickets to upcoming concerts.
The center is a nonprofit located in Harrisburg and has been consistently running annual operating revenue shortfalls of $750,000 to $1.5 million. In July it received a surprise final gift of about $2.6 million dollars from The Whitaker Foundation, which had long been a key supporter. Michael Hanes, president and CEO of Whitaker Center, said then that the center expected that a strong endowment would continue to be vital to its success and that it currently stood at about $6 million.
