As it celebrates 20 years in business, Martin Communications Inc. has been moving into new digs in Shiremanstown.
The full-service marketing, advertising and public relations firm, whose client list includes Harrisburg-based PinnacleHealth System and the Home Builders Association of Metropolitan Harrisburg, has been renovating a 3,200-square-foot building it owns at 25 W. Main St.
Martin had been operating in New Cumberland.
And that's not all. The firm continues to expand its workforce. It has a staff of nine with a 10th on the way, said Tom Martin, the company's president and founder.
That growth has included the addition of a dedicated media buyer, art director and production manager.
The recession prompted many companies to slash their respective marketing departments through layoffs and attrition, which opened the door for firms such as Martin to expand capabilities.
Three of the firm's four biggest clients are health care companies.
"Health care is very competitive," Martin said, citing constant changes with advances in technology and treatments. "The benefit to patients has to be communicated."
The unknown as it relates to Affordable Care Act regulations and the gradual shift in health care becoming more of a commodity purchase — which likely will place greater emphasis on value messaging — should keep his firm steady with work.
"The jury is out on message distribution," Martin said, referencing the fact that media has become so fragmented and options are vast for news and information. "What are the platforms and how do I get you interested in what a client is presenting? How do I reach you or influence you over time?"
Martin said client demand will dictate whether he further expands the firm's capabilities. The in-house role the company has taken on for several clients has led to continued growth in ad production. He recently hired a digital designer.
Ad production makes up about 30 percent of the firm's business, he said.
