North Carolina-based Snyder's-Lance Inc. has acquired assets of Massachusetts snack food distributor Stateline Service Corp. for an undisclosed price to grow and strengthen the firm's national distribution network, the company said Tuesday.
Snyder's-Lance, which was formed through a merger that included York County-based Snyder's of Hanover, has been building its direct-store delivery network through organic growth and selective acquisitions, according to a news release.
Industry experts and the company cited distribution strengths in combining the two longtime snack food names in 2010.
The deal for substantially all assets announced this week is not the first distribution acquisition for the firm in New England.
In 2011, Snyder's-Lance said it had acquired all of the issued and outstanding shares of distributor George Greer Co. Inc.
Stateline's system includes distribution of Snyder's-Lance brands and several other partner-brand product lines, the release stated.
"Through closer working relationships with key retailers, we expect to build on the successful business that Stateline has developed in this important geographic area," said Ed Good, president of subsidiary S-L Distribution Co., in a statement.
Snyder's-Lance makes and markets snack foods domestically and internationally under brands such as Cape Cod, Lance and Snyder's of Hanover.
