AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania, a Harrisburg-based Medicaid managed care plan, has received its second Multicultural Health Care Distinction honor from the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

In 2011, the plan became one of the first seven in America to formally receive the accolade. With this second award, AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania is currently one of only eight Medicaid plans nationwide to hold the distinction, which is valid through April 2015.

According to a news release, employees use 55 different languages to communicate with its more than 120,000 members, and it offers health education programs on topics that are tailored to the unique needs of the ethnic groups in its membership.

AmeriHealth Caritas is a majority-owned subsidiary of Independence Blue Cross; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan holds a minority interest.
