Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance Inc., a cosmetic and personal care products retailer based in Illinois, plans to hire hundreds of distribution workers at its Franklin County warehouse to meet order demands driven by the company's rapid growth.
Ulta, which also markets itself as Ulta Beauty, said in a release that it’s adding new automation technology to the 373,000-square-foot distribution hub in Guilford Township that will allow the company to fill e-commerce orders faster and more efficiently. The upgrades should be complete by the end of the summer, according to the company.
“The Chambersburg distribution center plays a vital role in Ulta Beauty’s aggressive growth strategy by fulfilling the daily shipment of thousands of products to our stores and, now, directly to our e-commerce customers, nationwide,” Eric Wickson, director of the North East Distribution Center, said in the release.
Ulta didn’t specify the exact number of jobs it will add at the facility. Last year when it opened the new warehouse, the company said it would employ 200 people immediately and add about 200 more jobs within several years. Today, Ulta employs about 300 people at the warehouse, according to the company.
As of May, Ulta operates 576 retail stores across 46 states and also sells its 20,000 products online. It’s added more than 120 stores since last year, according to the company’s numbers.
Its first quarter net sales increased 23 percent to $583 million compared with a year ago, according to the company. Net income grew 20 percent to $42 million in the first quarter. The company said it is planning this fall to relaunch its e-commerce site for a better customer experience.
