PPL dedicates $245M hydroelectric project

By

Allentown-based PPL Corp. subsidiary PPL Montana has dedicated a new 60-megawatt powerhouse at its hydroelectric facility at Rainbow Dam near Great Falls, the company said.

The $245 million redevelopment project replaces a century-old powerhouse and raises generation capacity by 70 percent, PPL said in a news release.

Constructing the new facility started in October 2009 and ended earlier this year, the release stated. American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 incentives helped to make the project possible.

Shares of PPL Corp. are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol PPL.
