Private contributions continue to play a starring role in the financial outlook of Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, according to the Harrisburg nonprofit's annual report for fiscal year 2012.
From Oct. 1, 2011, through Sept. 30, 2012, private contributions represented 42 percent of the center's revenue, according to the report. Contributions totaled more than $2.4 million. Admissions, dues and fees came to nearly $1.7 million. The total operating revenue was $5.1 million.
The center noted that corporate gifts to its Educational Improvement Tax Credit program totaled nearly $275,000.
On the expense side, program services costing more than $3.2 million represented 53 percent of the total outlay of $6.1 million. General and administration expenses came in at nearly $1.8 million, with fundraising at more than $250,000.
The center also listed nearly $700,000 in grants as non-operating income for the fiscal year.
The report listed total assets at $37.5 million and total liabilities at $4.9 million.
