PATH to partner government, industry for workforce development

By

The state Department of Labor and Industry today announced the launch of PA Talent Hub, or PATH, a program that will mesh private-sector recruitment programs and practices with state workforce development efforts.

"The simple premise of PATH is to sit down with employers and talk, listen and learn about what they are doing to obtain the skilled workers they need to fill jobs at their companies," L&I Secretary Julia Hearthway said in a statement.

PATH will begin as a collaboration between L&I and companies in the western part of the state, but similar partnerships will be rolled out across the state in coming months, department spokeswoman Sara Goulet said.

The PATH pilot partners include Consol Energy Inc., UPMC hospitals, FedEx Ground, and Acutronic, a maker of flight simulators.

L&I's workforce development staff will meet with PATH partner recruiting staff this summer to determine what successful programs are transferable to PA CareerLink staff. Those staff will be trained and help launch new workforce programs.
