Utz Quality Foods Inc., the York County-based salty snack giant, has donated $500,000 to Hanover Hospital's Private Rooms for Every Patient, or PREP, campaign.

The donation helped the hospital renovate its semi-private patient rooms into 16 private rooms, which will give the York County hospital 82 percent private rooms, according to Utz.

Utz's donation is specifically contributing to the unit's new Terrace Room, a quiet retreat area furnished with seating for families and patients to enjoy the natural light and views from large windows overlooking the area.

Michael Rice, Utz CEO and board chairman, has helped spearhead the PREP campaign since 2010 for Hanover Hospital, which ultimately raised $4 million for the renovations.
