Lancaster County dominated the Pennsylvania's Agricultural Land Preservation Board's recent announcement of 1,906 acres statewide added to the farmland preservation program.
Of the 23 farms added to the program, 10 are in Lancaster. Their identifications and acreage are as follows: Harold III and Anna Barley, 23.51; James H. and Judith A. Bollinger, 94.76; Homer and Etta Eberly, 67.17; J. Leslie and Marcia Hess, 39.43; Paul B. and Wilma M. Leid, 24.02; Galen and Nancy Martin, 84.99; Gilbert and Sandra Martin, 43.15; Herbert and Rhoda Mast, 108.10; Paul and J. Mark Miller, 84.21; and David, Ruth, John and Linda Smucker, 60.34.
Since the program began in 1988, state, county and local governments have invested nearly $1.2 billion to preserve 475,000 acres on 4,426 farms in 57 counties for future agricultural production.
