A Lancaster company that focuses on the connections between movement, nutrition and learning has announced an online program partnership with Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.
“We have been working for the past two years to design a professional development course that is informed by the latest research in educational neuroscience, cognitive psychology, health and physical literacy, and will enable Active Learning Specialists to become the game changers that schools need,” Martha Lester Harris, president and co-founder of Fizika Group LLC, said in a news release.
The certificate course will be self-paced and take an estimated 30 to 60 hours to complete. Scheduled to launch on July 1, it already has enrollees from as far away as the United Kingdom. HU ultimately plans to offer graduate credit for the certificate program. A free one-hour webinar titled “Changing Education through Active Learning” will be offered at 3:30 p.m. June 18.
Fizika was founded in 2009 and has partnered with the Pennsylvania State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD) on a statewide series of webinars that attracted more than 300 participants. School District of Lancaster’s physical education teachers are using Fizika’s approach to active learning to help improve classroom behavior and student outcomes.
