The Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania hit the mark of 1 million employees trained this spring, according to a news release from Gov. Tom Corbett's office.
The state Department of Community and Economic Development provides funds through WEDnetPA to businesses to deliver basic skills and information technology training to employees. The program works through a network of about 30 partners that includes state universities, community colleges and other educational entities throughout the state, the release stated.
WEDnetPA uses existing staff at partner institutions for the delivery system and 90 cents on the program dollar goes directly to employee training, the release stated. It has helped more than 17,000 companies train incumbent employees since 1999.
