The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. has reported an improved net loss in the fiscal first quarter of 2013 compared with last year and an increase in comparable-store sales, the company said.
Bon-Ton, with corporate offices in York County and Milwaukee, reported a net loss of $26.6 million, or $1.41 per diluted share, compared with a net loss of $40.8 million, or $2.23 per diluted share, in the year-ago period.
Comparable-store sales went up 1.2 percent, and total sales rose 1 percent to $646.9 million, according to the company.
Bon-Ton operates more than 270 stores, which includes 11 furniture galleries, in 24 states. Shares are traded on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol BONT.
