In brief: House approves 50/50 drawing legislation

By ,

Legislation backed by state Rep. John Payne, R-Dauphin County, that would allow all minor and major league sports teams in Pennsylvania to run 50/50 raffles at home games passed the House on May 15.

Specifically, House Bill 1098 enables nonprofits affiliated with the teams to conduct the drawings. Half of the proceeds would go to the organization and half would go to the drawing winner.

"Ultimately, this bill is about all types of organizations coming together for the good of our communities — sports teams can help our charities raise money that will inevitably be invested back into the community, all while enhancing the experience for its fans," Payne said.

H.B. 1098 awaits consideration by the Senate.
