Logistics and package delivery company FedEx Corp.'s new distribution facility in Dauphin County will employ about 100 people when it's completed in August 2014, according to the company.
Yesterday, Lemoyne-based RSR Realtors said it had brokered the sale of 50 acres on Fulling Mill Road in Lower Swatara Township adjacent to FedEx’s existing freight distribution facility for the company to build the new center.
The facility will be 312,000 square feet, and township commissioners could approve the final plans tonight, clearing the way for construction to begin soon, according to the township.
The warehouse will serve FedEx Ground’s regional network, along with its hub at 510 Industrial Drive in Fairview Township, York County, company spokeswoman Erin Truxal said.
“The new facility is part of a nationwide network expansion to boost daily package volume capacity and further enhance the speed and service capabilities of the FedEx Ground network,” she said in an email.
Since 2005, FedEx Ground has opened 11 new hubs with the latest material handling systems, as well as expanded or relocated more than 500 facilities as part of the companywide growth, Truxal said. The network improvements have allowed the company to accelerate ground service by a day or more in about two-thirds of the U.S., she said.
