The state Department of Community and Economic Development has received a number of calls from businesses saying they've been contacted by people claiming to be with the state Department of Economic Development or Department of Business Development, according to a news release.

The businesses reporting the calls said the person had an accent and was very persistent as he or she attempted to get the businesses' classified information, the release stated.

The Federal Trade Commission is investigating and anyone who gets a similar call should contact DCED at 866-466-3972.
