In brief: Gun sales and growth at Carlisle Sports & Outdoor Nationals

By ,

Carlisle Events, the Cumberland County car show company, said gun sales will be part of its first outdoors and adventure show in September, called the Carlisle Sports & Outdoor Nationals, which continues to grow quickly.

"Our event is growing monthly, if not weekly and daily," spokesman Michael Garland said.

Reading-based Eagle Arms Productions, which operates gun shows around Pennsylvania, will run the show at the Carlisle Expo Center as part of the outdoor nationals, he said.

Carlisle Events spent more than a year readying its Sept. 6-8 event, much the way the National Rifle Association is planning for next February's Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg.

There was a strong interest in the outdoor nationals after the cancellation of the former Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show, which the NRA is replacing, Garland said.

"It's somewhat ironic the NRA show won't have gun sales," he said.
