Johnson Controls to build new facility in York County

Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls Inc. has acquired 57 acres of land to build a new facility in Hopewell Township and will keep some operations at its existing York-area campus.

Construction of the new facility is slated for completion in late 2017 and will include a heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment testing complex as well as an engineering and business support center, the company said Monday in a news release.

The decision retains about 450 jobs for the county.

Johnson Controls said its Navy Systems business, Grantley manufacturing plant and about 250 workers supporting these operations will remain at the existing campus, which is off Richland Avenue along the Spring Garden Township border with the city.

The company said in November it was assessing the viability for growth at its York-area campus and was exploring sites.

York County became a hub for Johnson Controls’ Building Efficiency business segment since it acquired the former York International in 2005.
