Craft beer enthusiasts: Sample ale on the trail
It's time to drink some beer. Do you have your passport?
No, silly, I'm not sending you to Germany, Belgium or Ireland (although I'm not opposed to it). But a passport for the Susquehanna Ale Trail Passport Event this weekend will grant you access to 14 area breweries, brewpubs, brew supply stores and even one distillery.
For once in your life, a passport will cost you only $15 (or $5 for designated drivers). Even if you missed the start of this event last weekend, you can still purchase a passport on the spot at any of the 14 trail participants. That will get you three to five craft beer tastings per place (ooh!), a 10 percent discount on merchandise (ahh!), a souvenir Susquehanna Ale Trail mug (sweet!) and a tour at the breweries (whee!).
I'm particularly intrigued by the prospect of Old Republic Distillery, which has some seriously sweet libations. This includes its Love Potion, which is a strawberry-blueberry liquor, as well as an apple pie moonshine made with locally grown apples and an apple blueberry pie variety, too.
Here's a tip: If you've never stopped by the Biergarten at Bube's Brewery, then you must do so while brewery-hopping! You'll be swept away from the hustle and bustle of street traffic into an outdoor dining oasis surrounded by shade trees. Here you can enjoy all of the beers found at the on-site microbrewery as well as casual pub fare.
Passport Event hours are 4-8 p.m. on Friday, noon-5 p.m. on Saturday and noon-4 p.m. on Sunday. So take a look at the trail map or the list of participants below and plan your route. Where will you start your tour?
