Leroy D. “Bud” Loy, co-founder and chairman of the board of the engineering firm Skelly and Loy Inc., died April 10, according to a posting on the company's website. He was 81.
"Bud was a great leader and friend who will be missed by all who had the opportunity to know him personally and associate with him in the engineering industry," the posting says. "Bud created a foundation for Skelly and Loy that is built to last and provided a family-oriented environment for all employees. He will be greatly missed and remembered for the opportunities that he created for so many of us."
Loy, 81, was named the Harrisburg Business Leader of the Year in 1994. He held memberships in many engineering organizations and was past president and recipient of the Distinguished Award of Merit for the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania.
Loy's daughter, Sandra Loy Bell, is CEO of the Swatara Township-based company. According to Business Journal records, Skelly and Loy had revenues of more than $18 million in 2012 and employed more than 80 people locally.
An obituary said funeral services would be private, but memorial contributions in Loy's name may be directed to the Michael D. Loy & Leroy D. Loy Jr. Engineering Award at the Penn State University School of Engineering.
