The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry will officially launch its “Think Local” app for mobile devices this week during Lancaster's “First Friday” event.
The chamber will hold an “Appy Hour” 5-7 p.m. Friday at Southern Market Center, where its offices are located.
Volunteers will be on hand to explain the app’s features and help visitors download it, chamber spokeswoman Dana Bowman said. Refreshments from local companies will be served.
The free app, available for iOS and Android devices, offers a searchable database of participating local businesses and has check-in and recommendation features, Bowman said. Businesses have various ways to promote themselves through the app, including special offers.
“Think Local” is a chamber program that encourages people and firms to keep their dollars in the community by patronizing local enterprises. More than 500 businesses have signed on to the program; of those, with more than 400 featured in the app, Bowman said.
