No decision on HIA commercial developer until April

Th Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority, the board that operates Harrisburg International Airport, will not make a decision on a developer to plan commercial properties near it until sometime next month.

SARAA in February asked developers to submit proposals for a mixed commercial development of 22 acres across the road from HIA in Lower Swatara Township, Dauphin County. The authority had wanted to select a developer by the end of March to plan the conversion of a former parking lot into shops, restaurants and a hotel.

There have been many good discussions about developing the property since the authority asked for proposals, but there is nothing for the board to act on at this time, SARAA board member Fred Sembach said.

SARAA officials had hoped they could act on this issue before April, but fewer developers than expected had submitted proposals and the goal is to contract with one by the end of April, authority and airport spokesman Scott Miller said.
