Brechbill & Helman Construction Co. Inc. participated in the annual Bernie Hutzler Golf Classic at Cress Creek in Shepherdstown on June 5. Proceeds from this year's golf classic will be used to purchase a newborn hearing screening system at Jefferson Medical Center and equipment for the new outpatient surgery center at Berkeley Medical Center across from the hospital. The Rotary Club of York recently awarded grants to the following organizations: Bell Socialization Services, $1,500; Child Care Consultants, $5,250; Children's Aid Society – The Lehman Center Crisis Nursery, $2,500; York County Library System, $4,000; and the YMCA of York and York County – Downtown Early Learning Center, $4,000. Spooky Nook Sports employees put together a team to participate in this year's Lancaster Relay for Life on June 9 and 10 at Conestoga Valley High School. The team of 29 people raised $3,250 for the American Cancer Society through various fundraising efforts and events. Shumaker PDT, an event-planning company in Lancaster was a sponsor of the 2017 Girls on the Run race on May 20 at Franklin & Marshall College, which attracted close to 1,400 young women. Shumaker provided support and materials including audio support, fencing and an Optidome for the race.
