Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority officials today called the Federal Aviation Administration's final list of airport control tower closings disappointing after the list included Capital City Airport in York County.
"On behalf of the loyal tower employees at Capital City Airport (CXY), and all CXY tenants and users, we are extremely disappointed with the Federal Aviation Administration's decision to close the contract air traffic control tower at CXY due to sequestration," Timothy J. Edwards, SARAA and Harrisburg International Airport executive director said in a statement.
The FAA released the list of 149 tower closings today as part of sequestration, the automatic federal budget cuts. The towers will close April 7.
SARAA operates Capital City Airport in Fairview Township. The statement says the airport will remain open as an uncontrolled airport.
Lancaster Airport, operated by Lancaster County in Manheim Township, also will have its tower closed. Officials there were not immediately available for comment.
