Get out your big red nose, makeup and floppy shoes: “America's grandest clown celebration” is coming to the midstate.
Lancaster County will host the 32nd annual Clownfest convention, organizer and clown Vincent Pagliano said.
"I was looking for a fun, friendly community," he said.
Clownfest has been held on the Jersey Shore for years. Relocating will allow Pagliano to pare expenses and staff, he said.
Billed as "the only clown festival in the world," Clownfest draws clowns, vendors and fans from all over. The festival has drawn several hundred clowns in the past, and about 100 last year, Pagliano said.
It will take place at the Lancaster Host Resort & Conference Center. Pagliano said he is looking forward to having a single central location after juggling multiple venues for the New Jersey Clownfests.
The event has been rescheduled from the third weekend in September to Aug. 22-24, so as not to conflict with the school year and Labor Day, Pagliano said.
The traditional Clownfest Parade will be part of pregame festivities Aug. 23 at Clipper Magazine Stadium, when the Lancaster Barnstormers play the York Revolution. In New Jersey, the parade would draw 5,000 to 10,000 spectators, the Newark-based Star-Ledger reported.
If the inaugural Lancaster Clownfest goes well, Pagliano said he would like to continue holding it there. So far, he's happy, he said.
"We feel welcomed," he said.
