Cumberland County state Rep. Sheryl Delozier will host a community business forum March 21 featuring guest speaker state Labor and Industry Secretary Julia Hearthway.
The event is the first in an ongoing series that Delozier is having to meet with members of the business community in the 88th district the Republican represents. The district includes Lemoyne, Mechanicsburg, New Cumberland, Shiremanstown and Wormleysburg boroughs, as well as Lower Allen, Upper Allen and Monroe townships.
Next Thursday's event will have Hearthway giving a 2013 budget proposal briefing and taking questions from attendees. The forum is 8-9 a.m. in Gorgas Hall of the Lower Allen Township Municipal Services Center at 2233 Gettysburg Road.
L&I released January job numbers on Friday that show state employment numbers rose 1.2 percent over the past year to slightly more than 6 million total employed. The total was unchanged from December.
The state's number of unemployed was 537,000 in January, a 9.6 percent increase over the past year and a 3.5 percent increase from December. The unemployment rate reached 8.2 percent in January, up from 7.9 percent in December and up from 7.6 percent a year ago.
Included in the release were total job creation numbers based on benchmarking revisions from earlier monthly estimates. Pennsylvania added 117,900 private-sector jobs from January 2011 to January 2013, according to the department.
"This is strong evidence that our economy continues on a solid path of growth," Hearthway said in the release.
