The YMCA of York County has been awarded a two-year grant totaling $225,000 to support the implementation of community health improvements as part of the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health initiative, or REACH.
In October, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's REACH initiative awarded Y-USA a cooperative agreement of up to $4 million per year for up to five years to address the gaps between racial and ethnic groups across the country.
The Y-USA is selecting 16 new communities per year to participate in the initiative. York County's YMCA is the only one in Pennsylvania selected this year.
The participating communities reflect populations of 500,000 or less with an established relationship with a geographic area that is at least 50 percent African-American/black or Hispanic/Latino, or a combination of both racial and ethnic groups.
