PA already has some of the highest gasoline taxes and fees in the country.
More accountability needs to be shown for the monies they already receive.
Transportation infrastructure funding is a major problem for Pennsylvania. The money has to come from somewhere but it has to be solely dedicated to roads and bridges and not diverted to other non-transportation uses. The current transportation funding also needs to be evaluated to insure the monies are going where they were originally intended. Everytime the state has a pool of money it gets raided for uses it wasn't originally intended for.

no, the government collects enough taxes already, time to start living within the restraints that all households live by...A BUDGET!!! If our current congress cannot get it straight, they need to resign their positions immediately and let others make it happen.
Why not adopt a tax that everyone pays? Part of the gas price is to fund this construction. What is happening to this income?
I would have to agree with Joe. The tax burden in the US is slowly consuming a higher and high percentage of everyone's income. It's always for a good cause - teachers, firefighters, police, roads.... no one ever talks about our huge legislature, bloated state government, inefficient purchasing... and it's still unbelievable the number of people who don't realize that taxing business just results in higher prices.
Why pay anymore taxes. I do not understand the whole mentality on this. They want us to pay more taxes but we can not get rid of the wage control, or union wages that are mandated on us for Road work as well as schools. I say heck no on taxes, we pay more than enough and now they come up with new terms of fees instead of a tax. Who do they think they are kidding.
Lone dissenter - Yes! And, to boot, let's make it adjusted based on 1. make/model of your vehicle and 2. Your avg. mileage on your vehicle per year. The more you use and cause damage to the roads, the more you pay. Of course, there would have to be some kind of exemptions for commerical use (although I do believe they pay more already). Maybe then, and only then, would people start to think about what impact their commuting in a hummer does to the roads and bridges, let alone the local environment. And, this is coming from someone who drives a SUV 60+ miles to work each day. I appreciate the fact that the only money PennDot gets from me each year is a measly $35. I'd happily pay $50, even though, I'd MUCH rather see the money used toward developing better commuting options throughout PA. High speed rails, anyone?

We already have graduated fees based on vehicle sizes. They are called called Gas Taxes. The more you use, the more you pay. Vehicle registrations are also graduated based on vehicle size. Commercial registrations and licenses cost far more than personal, and trucks cost more than cars. Maybe we should look at listing registrations fees by vehicle weight, since many suv's are classified as cars instead of the trucks they should be.
Back When Dwight D.Eisenhower was President, the highest Federal tax category on the top earners (See "history of maximum rates") was about 90 percent.Today it is 35 percent, and much of that is "sheltered from taxation, a lot of it it foreign bank accounts. . Back then, when Ike Eisenhower was President, America was on a roll! , We built the Interstate National Defense Highway System, We responded when The Soviet Union sent the Sputnik satellite into outer space with a space program that sent a man to the Moon and resulted in technological supremacy for decades. . We built a middle class that was the envy of the world. We had a currency that was the envy of the world. We built a housing stock that was the envy of the world. We used Federal Marshall Program funds to rebuild Europe so that we would not see Western WW2 Allies slip into Communism. Our World War Two Generation was able to educuate their baby boomer children without horrendous debt. The World War Two Generation began to retire and lived well on social security combined with corprorate pensions and interest bearing savings accounts -non o this one percent interest on their money!.
Back then the American people, Congress and Presidents understood that we had to invest in our future if we were to remain secure and prosperous. and that included building a modern a transportation network to serve 170 million people.Today that aging network serves 315 million people. and is falling rapidly into disrepair. We must be willing to once agin invest in America or we will never see conditons anywhere near where they once were. Keepign taxes low on off shore investors just doesn't cut it! I am so glad I was raised and grew up in an America that believed in its future and was willing to make those investment in me and my generation.

If we play the "way back machine" we also have to remember that we had government representation that did not squander the tax revenue that was generated...unlike today's ilk that are burdening our future generations buying votes by offering goodies and playing Santa Claus...
This is sickening. Pennsylvanians will absolutely not support any more increases for fees which are already too high. Our state government is already a bloated wasteful mess. Work within your budget. DO NOT come back to the people for more.
I seem to remember the increase in the state gas tax back when Tom Ridge was governor. At that time, we were promised new roads and bridges in exchange for support for that increase. Where did that money go? Wait...don't tell me. I think I can already guess.
