What is being demolished and for what in the 2500 block of Harrisburg's North Front Street?
No land development plans have been submitted to the city. Vartan said he is not sure the property is immediately developable for commercial or residential uses.
“Hopefully we’ll build a nice building someday,” he said.
Vartan was behind the mixed-use 1500 Condominium building at Reily and North Sixth streets last year. He is one of the city’s largest private landholders, with many holdings near the 1500 in Midtown Harrisburg.
The vacant office building was once one of Skelly and Loy Inc.’s properties. It was leased from Radnor Realty Corp., said Margy Coyne, a spokeswoman for Swatara Township-based Skelly and Loy.
Through a limited liability corporation, Vartan purchased the site last year from Radnor for $297,000, property records show.
“The building was functionally obsolete. (But,) it’s a great site,” he said.
Vartan said it’s more likely he will develop another building or two next to the 1500 before anything happens with the property at North Front and Radnor streets.
That area is slated to see a federal courthouse building in the coming years.
