Lower Allen Township-based Members 1st Federal Credit Union is targeting five new branch openings this year, Executive Vice President George Nahodil said today.

The Cumberland County credit union, which has 53 branches and more than 200,000 members, is planning two openings in the Carlisle and Mechanicsburg areas and three in Lancaster County — in Elizabethtown, Ephrata and Lancaster.

Also, due to continued internal growth, Members 1st is growing beyond its headquarters at 5000 Louise Drive and adding staff at its neighboring office building at 5020 Louise Drive, Nahodil said.

The headquarters property is about 11 acres. The credit union's adjacent parcel, which is in Upper Allen Township, is about five acres, according to county property records.

The home building is 55,000 square feet and houses 252 employees, Nahodil said. The neighboring property has a 47,000-square-foot building that currently houses 117 employees.

The credit union has owned the adjacent property since 2007, property records show.

"We are growing both externally, meaning that our branches are growing, and we are also growing internally with operational people as well," he said.

Members 1st has about 800 employees in total, Nahodil said. The company has been adding about 100 new staff members annually, he said.
