Harrington Hoists Inc. has leased a facility in West Donegal Township and begun the process of consolidating several smaller operations there.

“This move is a huge step in our global manufacturing diversification and will allow Harrington Hoists Inc. to improve our service to the U.S. and the Americas,” Carlo Lonardi, COO of Harrington, said in a news release.

“We have been very excited to work closely with our parent company, Kito Corporation, in the moving of both the sourcing and manufacturing operations to the U.S. for these particular products. The proximity to our suppliers and our Manheim resources has made Elizabethtown the ideal location for this new operation.”

According to Harrington spokeswoman Dawn Hess, the company – which supplies and manufactures electric chain and wire rope hoists, air powered hoists, lever hoists, manual hand chain hoists, trolleys, cranes, crane components and a full line of replacement parts – has experienced double-digit sales for the last 15 years, with the exception of the recession.

Harrington has a five-year lease for the 97,000 square-foot facility in Conewago Industrial Park and began preparing the space in December. It expects to begin operations there in April and be up to speed by early summer.

Spokeswoman Dawn Hess said about 130 people currently work at Harrington’s main facility in Manheim and several smaller leased sites nearby. About 18 of those employees will transfer to the new location for warehousing and assembly operations, while the rest will remain to continue operations, fabrication and cell production manufacturing in Manheim.

The company will hire about six additional employees for the new facility and says future initiatives could lead to further hiring there.

Harrington is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan-based Kito Corporation, the largest producer of chain and wire rope hoists in the world. Harrington also has a facility in California.
