State Sen. Chuck McIlhinney has reintroduced legislation to let beer retailers buy licenses to sell wine and liquor as the issue heats up again for privatizing alcohol sales now under commonwealth control.
The bill from McIlhinney, R-Bucks and Montgomery counties, is the same as a proposal made in the last legislative session, according to a news release.
It would provide new business opportunities for retailers and convenience for customers, the release stated.
The bill comes as Gov. Tom Corbett is holding a news conference this afternoon — along with state House Majority Leader Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny County — on privatizing wine and liquor sales in the state.
A proposal from Turzai was amended down to a wine sales overhaul before it failed to pass the legislature in the 2011-12 session.
