The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. is opening two new stores, including its first in Maine, and expects to begin remodeling early next year.

Both of the stores are at malls owned by Chicago-based General Growth Properties Inc.: The Maine Mall in South Portland, Maine, and Glenbrook Square in Fort Wayne, Ind., a news release stated.

Bon-Ton, with corporate offices in York County and Milwaukee, expects to start remodeling the stores in February and be completed by the middle of September, the release stated.

The expansion to Maine follows the company moving into Idaho this year. That deal also was with General Growth Properties.

The Bon-Ton Stores operates 273 department stores in 24 states under the Bon-Ton and other nameplates, according to the release. Shares are traded on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol BONT.
